The Problem with the Metrorail in Miami

The Solution
The obvious answer to all of these problems? Expand the Metrorail system. If we added more lines, some going east - west, and have more trains running 24 hours a day, the Metrorail would be much more useful. More people would ride it, and tourists would have an easy and affordable way of getting to and from Miami Beach, the airport, and many more places. Also, it would help to lessen the everyday traffic on streets for which Miami is infamous for. Being a Miami native myself, I know just how frustrating rush hour can be; And when it's added to the ridiculous price of parking, private transportation in here becomes practically intolerable. But we put up with it because we do not have an alternative. The people of Miami have tolerated enough. It's time to change things. Reform the Metrorail system.
The Problems
People say that it's not worth expanding the Metrorail because not many people use it daily. The truth is that not many people use it because it's very inefficient
1. Complicated Schedule: The Metrorail has a complicated schedule that varies often. Also, trains stop running way too early into the night. Miami Dade is city famous for its night life, if the train ran later, it could be used as an alternative to drunk driving or paying an expensive taxi fare. Also, the fact that the train departs every 35 minutes makes catching a train very difficult.
Metrorail Schedules
Metrorail Service Update:
Metrorail single-tracking schedule for the weekend :
Metrorail performs track preventive maintenance and repair work after 8:30 p.m. weekdays and all day on weekends when service frequency is every 30 minutes. In the areas where work is being done, northbound and southbound trains will alternate (single track) service on the same track while maintenance is being performed on the opposite track.Metrorail will do single tracking from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza Station to the Culmer Station on:
Friday, April 27, 2012:- Trains will depart from the Dadeland South Station three (3) minutes later than the regular schedule starting at 9:33 p.m. and until 12:03 a.m.
- From 5:47 a.m. to 7:12 p.m., trains will depart every 35 minutes from the Palmetto Station.
- From 6:35 a.m. to 8 p.m., trains will depart every 35 minutes from the Dadeland South Station.

2. Limited Locations: The Miami Metrorail is not tourist friendly. Think about it, what would New York be like with out the Subway system? The easy convenience of being a tourist without a car would be obliterated. In New York, you can travel practically anywhere in the state because there are so many stops. Here in Miami, the Metrorail doesn't go where people want to go; there are only 22 stations, going north- south, and none of them stop near South Beach, Cutler Ridge, or anywhere near west or Miami.
3. Going to the Airport is a Hassle: If you live anywhere along US1 (SW Miami), you'd only be about 15 minutes away from the airport. However, to get to the airport, you would have to go all the way to NW Miami to come back down to the airport.
